CLARY MIDDLE SCHOOL
BRING HOPE TO CLARY
We believe we can bring hope to Clary by feeding students in need, mentoring, and supporting their music arts program. We have made contact with the new incoming Principal of Clary and have started coordinating our efforts with the social worker there. Applications have been filed with the national organization Blessings in a Backpack: www.blessingsinabackpack.org as well as Sysco which is a national food distributor that partners with them to provide the food.
BLESSINGS IN A BACKPACK WEEK
Kristen Cuthbert and Dennis Murphy attended the Mayors proclamation that October is officially "Blessings in a Backpack week" in the City of Syracuse.
NEXT STEPS. WAYS TO PARTICIPATE!
BLESSINGS IN A BACKPACK NEWS!
We now have a donor willing to match all contributions and we have been faithfully delivering packets of take home food for 50 students each week. We are now getting the food pre-packaged, so we will only need the following:
Every Friday, from 11:30a-12:15pm, we will deliver the packed bags to Clary to be distributed to the participating children. We will need drivers on a rotating basis.

SPRING MUSICAL SUPPORT
This year Clary’s spring musical is Disney’s Alice In Wonderland Jr. Performance dates are March 22 at 7pm and March 23 at 2pm. There are several specific ways EHBC can support this year’s cast and crew.
First, you can simply come to the show! We would love to see a packed house for both the Friday evening show and the Saturday matinee! Tickets are available for purchase at the door--$5 for adults and $3 for students.
THROW THE AFTER PARTY
Finally, each year after the final performance we have a cast party. This is another area EHBC can jump in and support; if party planning is your thing, this may be for you!
Support a Cast Member
$30 covers the cost for a gift, t-shirt and the after party. It would be great if each of the cast and crew members were able to receive flowers or a note congratulating them on their performance. These personal touches can mean a great deal to all of the students who have worked hard throughout the entire production process. There are about fifty students total involved in this year’s production.
This year we would like to provide students with show t-shirts. Again, there will be about fifty students total, between cast and crew. We are hoping to provide these shirts at no cost to the students, so we’re looking for sponsors to help with this!

(When using Subsplash Giving, make sure to select the Clary fund)
Eastern Hills can come alongside Becca in running and attending the performances. Nate's wife, Becca Pena, teaches music at Clary. Here is how she describes our volunteer opportunity: For the past several years EHBC has shown support for Clary’s drama program in various ways, from creating prop and costume pieces to offering assistance with technical details to simply showing up and cheering these kids on. As the drama program continues to grow and flourish, it has been exciting to see these volunteer relationships grow as well. One volunteer from last year’s show has actually become part of the regular after-school staff this year (specifically working with the drama students), and continues to look for ways to be a positive presence in these students’ lives. This commitment and passion to serve the Clary community is truly encouraging.
