Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?” He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.” - Luke 10:35-37
The parable of the good Samaritan is such a great story! Within it, Jesus calls us to offer mercy to those in need and to realize that God works in and through all kinds of people.
It’s been an exciting year for missions. We have partnered with Clary Middle School in the Syracuse City School District to offer hope and launched Blessings in a Backpack to serve kids from Clary. We also celebrated as Pass Da Rock grew and became fully independent from EHBC. Together we pursued the promises of Christ and gave an additional seven thousand dollars to each of our local partners during Advent. We have seen God bring freedom to children on Lake Volta in Ghana through our partnership with IJM. We watched as many of our young people have heard God’s call and followed him around the world and seen the Chinese Church continue to grow and host regular Sunday gatherings on our Enders Road Campus. God is at work in and through EHBC bringing mercy to those in need and reflecting the goodness of Christ to the world!
Clary Middle School
Did you know that over 41,000 residents of Syracuse live below the federal poverty guidelines? That’s 32% of the Syracuse population. Many children don’t eat over the weekend when they leave school. Their home situations are fragile and hard. We have partnered with Clary Middle School to offer hope and encouragement to the community. We are doing this in two ways: One is by offering 50 students food for the weekend through Blessings in a Backpack. Two, coming alongside the school for major events like their spring musical and prom.
Pass ‘Da R.O.C.K.
This has been a big year for Pass ‘Da R.O.C.K. Their dedicated board, many of whom call EHBC their home, has helped grow the ministry by establishing Nate Pena as the full-time director. In the past year, Pass ‘Da R.O.C.K. has been an integral part of serving the Clary Middle School community through student mentoring.
Ghana & IJM
We sponsored 2 community pastors’ conferences for IJM last year! About 400 pastors received training on how to advocate for Biblical justice in their respective communities including leading a bible study on Biblical justice. This lead to 46 children being rescued from slavery on Lake Volta. We sent 8 travelers to Ghana to help with the conference, serve at a school and orphanage, and give away 120 soccer balls! God is at work bringing hope and justice to Ghana and helping our people experience his goodness!
The Chinese Church has started a full Chinese service every Sunday morning since September 2018 at the Enders building with about 40-60 participants weekly. Additionally, they continue to have 60-80 people gather for fellowship every Friday night with homemade meals for college students, scholars, families, and children. In the past six years, 67 people have been baptized! Later this year their first full-time pastor will arrive from Wisconsin. The Chinese Church praises the Lord for being a channel to experience and reflect Christ love to the local Chinese community and greatly appreciates the support from Eastern Hills who has lovingly and continuously provided a facility, children’s ministry and many other forms of ministry support.
Advent Giving Challenge
This Advent we pursued the promises of Christ by giving 10% of all donations to our Local Partners. It was incredible to watch as God used our generosity and allowed us to raise close to $350,000 in the month of December with close to $35,000 being divided amongst our local partners: Hopeprint; David’s Refuge, Pass DA R.O.C.K., Young Life, and Young Lives. By partnering with these organizations we are able to love and serve refugees, families with special needs, inner-city youth, students, and teen moms.
