Come meet our new Commander and see what we are all about!
What is Awana?Awana is an international, nondenominational, Bible-centered youth organization whose goal is to “reach boys and girls with the Gospel of Christ, and train them to serve Him.” Awana is celebrating 61 years of ministry this year. Our Club is one of over 10,000 around the world and 2011 is the start of our 34rd year at EHBC. The Acrostic Awana comes from the first letters of Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed (II Timothy 2:15). Visit the official Awana website at www.awana.org for more resources.
But really, what is Awana?
Awana helps parents raise children and youth to know, love and serve Christ! Awana is a tool in the hands of a family to encourage their child to read and memorize scripture, understand it, and apply it in their lives. It culminates in an evening of shared learning with children their own age, worship, games and a chance to challenge one another to grow in their faith and share Christ’s love in their community.
When does Awana meet?
Awana is a 28-week program and meets in the East Campus of EHBC on Tuesday nights from 6:30pm to 8:15pm. We have concluded for the summer but will begin again with Opening Night in September 2011 and conclude in April 2012. Find more detailed information about the Clubs in the section below.

The Awana Clubs
Awana Clubs teach the gospel of Christ to children from preschool through high school. Throughout the program, children are rewarded for memorizing Bible verses and completing character building activities. Younger children learn through games, crafts and puppets -- wonderful learning tools for this age. As they grow, children are introduced to small group interaction, community outreach, and life application of the gospel.
Cubbies is for the children of the Directors, Leaders, and weekly helpers in our Awana program. This Club is the beginning of a wonderful journey that is specially designed for preschool boys and girls ages 3-5 and even so, we are always amazed at how much these young children learn by the end of the year.
The Bible-centered handbooks and club activities help your children begin to build a solid understanding of the basics of Christianity at an early age. Geared to encourage parental support and involvement, by working with your child on the weekly handbook lessons, you become an active participant in your child’s spiritual development. You will help your child memorize the verse each week, which helps them prepare for the activities to be enjoyed during Awana and your child will reap immediate benefits from their involvement in this exciting program.
Sparks is for Kindergarten through 2nd grade girls and boys. Music/Worship, Story, Handbook and Game Times make up the evening. Children are encouraged to advance at their own pace creating an atmosphere of achievement for all levels of ability. Each week the Sparks receive awards based upon their level of completion that evening.
It is very exciting and rewarding to see such young children memorize Scripture and begin to understand the truths in God's Word, sometimes for the very first time. Many parents are amazed at how their children are able to remember verses, but it does take help at home. The best way to help your children is to daily encourage them and go over their verses with them. It only takes a few minutes a day, but the rewards for both parents and child will last well beyond Awana.
We want our 3rd – 6th grade children to know the Truth of God's Word, and we want to Train them to serve Him in their everyday lives, thus comes the name Truth & Training (T&T).
The Ultimate Adventure is for our third and fourth graders and the Ultimate Challenge is for our fifth and six graders. These groups are introduced to even more fun and rewarding contests and activities. Each night's activities include, Game Time, Handbook Time, and Council Time.
Game Time encourages group effort and teams are often rotated, so that each and every child experiences being on a winning team somewhere along the line.
Handbook Time each week is a quiet time when the children share with the T&T Clubbers’ leaders one-on-one what they've learned about their lessons and verses. Awards for their progress are given quarterly, are publicly acknowledged, and are based on the book level achieved by each child.
Spiritual growth is nurtured as they explore the Bible in Council Time. It provides a time for fun praise and worship, and a time for the children to learn from the Awana leaders. God has built into each of us a hunger and desire to know how God's Word applies to our own lives and this is the time to help them see the daily life application of what they have learned.
Trek is designed for 7th-8th graders and this Awana program provides an effective transition between the younger Awana Clubs and the older Senior High program. While Trek retains some elements of the clubs, its materials, terminology, and methodology are specifically geared to junior highers. Trek features the Trek Check entrance brochure, Compass Points, and Bible studies. Bible memorization and other Bible-based achievements encourage “Trekers” to grow spiritually.
Journey is a senior high program of personal study in The Word. Students will deepen their relationship with God as they work through Bible studies, continue to memorize scripture, work on serving assignments and applications for growth. At the end of each year, Journey achievement pins are awarded to those who complete the study, and a special pin and certificate to those who complete all four years of Journey.
